Kendall MK IV radiometer is a self-calibrated cavity radiometer for measuring 30 solar constants or 4.2 W/square centimeter total irradiance. The most basic part of the radiometer is the inner blackened cavity, which forms a small blackbody. Radiometers are calibrated without reference to other standards, so they can be called absolute radiometers. The radiometer includes a device for controlling the main body temperature by water cooling. MK IV has been accepted as the standard of solar simulated intensity measurement and heat flow calibration.
